Bastille Restaurant - Alexandria VA

I took my wife out for her birthday this weekend. She chose Bastille - a French restaurant in Alexandria VA.

Apparently they moved to a new and larger place just west of US 1. Be sure to check Google Maps before getting out of your car.

We each got the Gourmand fixe-price 5-course dinner. We both felt the food was superb, the service was fabulous and the servings were more than adequate. My only dislike is that we were sitting close enough to other parties that our conversations seemed like one big group discussion. It reminded me of a cruise ship. It lacked the privacy an intimate dinner of that magnitude deserves.

But overall I would still rate this a five-start restaurant. The food was impeccable. For the money they could move the tables a little farther apart.

We each had Duck Magret for our main course - course 3. For course 2 we each had Sea Bream, a trout-like fish covered with pistaccios on a bed of carmelized onions and decorated with sauteed leeks and carrots. Both courses 2 and 3 were like a main course. We finished with a 4th course of cheese and fruits and a final 5th course of ice cream and a lavendar macaron. I'm still stuffed and that was 2 days ago.

If you're in Alexandria stop by Bastille for a dinner you'll remember.

How many restaurants you eat at where you dont hear table next to you? Tables would have to be pretty far away to not hear each other. Get over it.
